Sean Gugerty, a partner at Goodell DeVries, has been named Chair of the Education Committee of the Maryland-D.C. Society for Healthcare Risk Management (MD-DC SHRM).
MD-DC SHRM seeks to advance the professional practice of healthcare risk management and the professional development of risk management and patient safety professionals. It is an affiliate of ASHRM, the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management.
As Chair of the Education Committee, Sean will guide the planning of educational programs for MD-DC SHRM meetings. The programs focus on risk management, patient safety, and other healthcare-related topics.
Sean is a member of Goodell DeVries's Medical Malpractice and Appellate Law Practice Groups. He defends health care providers and health care institutions in medical malpractice claims before the Health Care Alternative Dispute Office of Maryland, the Circuit Courts of Maryland, Maryland’s appellate courts, the Superior Court of Washington, D.C., and federal courts. Sean has successfully litigated high-exposure cases involving claims of alleged birth injury, catastrophic brain injury from NICU care, complications during and after surgery, and claims for failure to prevent COVID-19 infection. He has been honored as a Maryland Super Lawyer in the area of Personal Injury - Medical Malpractice: Defense and Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America in Medical Malpractice Law – Defendants and Health Care Law. Sean also defends companies that manufacture and sell over-the-counter medications and was part of the briefing team that obtained dismissal of over 1,300 cases filed against generic manufacturer defendants in the Zantac MDL (MDL No. 2924).
