Jeffrey J. Hines and George S. Mahaffey Jr. obtained dismissal of a legal malpractice case in the Circuit Court for Prince George's County, Maryland. The plaintiff alleged that the defendant-lawyer breached the applicable standard of care in the handling of a trial. However, the judge, after being presented with arguments by the plaintiff concerning the so-called continuous representation rule, properly recognized that the plaintiff's pleadings demonstrated the statute of limitations had run on the claims. The result is significant given how difficult it is to obtain dismissal of legal malpractice claims
