Associate Attorney - Cannabis Law Practice Group

Goodell DeVries is seeking an Associate Attorney to join our Cannabis Law Practice Group. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in cannabis law and the desire to work within this developing practice area. No prior experience in cannabis law is required, but prior experience in corporate practice, business litigation, or regulatory law is preferred. The successful candidate will be intimately involved in representing the firm's cannabis operators as general outside counsel, providing regulatory advice, corporate formation and governance assistance, and litigation. This is an ideal role for entrepreneurial attorneys who welcome the opportunity to grow and develop a rapidly expanding practice area.

Must be admitted in Maryland.

 

Legal Assistant

The Legal Assistant will be responsible for providing a wide variety of secretarial and administrative support for assigned attorneys.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Takes direction from attorneys on various projects and compiles and tracks written documentation as needed
  • Answers incoming phone calls and facilitates handling of requests for information
  • Prepares documentation and accurately applies basic and advanced features of firm software; works from dictation, rough drafts, or notes provided by others and may handle preliminary research of information needed for completing correspondence
  • Organizes, tracks, and maintains documents in client files
  • Maintains client files in NetDocs according to firm protocol and attorney preference
  • Manages calendars
  • Makes travel arrangements and prepares travel expense reports
  • Opens new matter files
  • Performs time entry for assigned timekeepers
  • Prepares draft documentation and correspondence for review
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of two years of experience providing administrative or secretarial support in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to deal with internal and external clients on all levels
  • Excellent typing, grammatical, and proofreading skills
  • Attention to detail
