Associate Attorney - Medical Malpractice Defense Litigation

Goodell, DeVries, Leech & Dann, LLP, an established litigation law firm in Baltimore, is seeking an Associate Attorney to join our Medical Malpractice Practice Group. The ideal candidate will have four years or more of litigation experience, with at least two years of experience in medical malpractice litigation. The ideal candidate is also barred and in good standing to practice in Maryland and/or Virginia state courts. The successful candidate must be self-motivated with strong interpersonal, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

Legal Assistant

The Legal Assistant will be responsible for providing a wide variety of secretarial and administrative support for assigned attorneys.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Takes direction from attorneys on various projects and compiles and tracks written documentation as needed.
  • Answers incoming phone calls and facilitates handling of requests for information.
  • Prepares documentation and accurately applies basic and advanced features of firm software. Works from dictation, rough drafts or notes provided by others, and may handle preliminary research of information needed for completing correspondence.
  • Organizes, tracks, and maintains documents in client files.
  • Maintains client files in NetDocs according to firm protocol and attorney preference.
  • Calendar Management.
  • Makes travel arrangements and prepares travel expense reports.
  • New matter file opening.
  • Performs time entry for assigned timekeepers.
  • Prepares draft documentation and correspondence for review.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience providing administrative or secretarial support in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including advanced skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to deal with internal and external clients on all levels.
  • Excellent typing, grammatical and proofreading skills, and attention to detail.

 

File Clerk

The File Clerk will be responsible for comprehensive administrative support to include the maintenance of legal documents and assignments. The individual in this role will primarily work as a File Clerk and will provide direct support to attorneys, paralegals, secretaries, and Administration. The candidate will provide occasional receptionist coverage to include: greeting visitors, answering general questions, answering phones and taking messages, and directing individuals to appropriate person(s) within the firm, and will provide other administrative support as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Takes direction from attorneys, paralegals, secretaries, the Document Services Coordinator, and Administration on filing and document management and compiles and tracks written documentation as needed.
  • Organizes, tracks, and maintains documents in client files according to firm protocol and attorney preference.
  • Maintains client files in the firm’s document management system according to firm protocol and attorney preference.
  • Calendar Management and meeting coordination.
  • Arranges for hard copy reproduction and scanning of documents.
  • New matter file opening.
  • Data entry.
  • Prepares draft documentation and correspondence for review.
  • Greet clients and guests in a professional manner. Directs visitors to the appropriate persons and/or conference rooms.
  • Open and close office telephone system promptly at designated time. Answer all calls in a professional manner and direct to the appropriate person/room.
  • Operate standard office equipment and learn new software when required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client and firm matters.
  • Interact with attorneys, paralegals and staff in a mature and professional manner.
  • Understand and comply with firm and building security policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and support as assigned.

 Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a legal or professional services environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including advanced skills in Word and a working knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to deal with internal and external clients on all levels.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under the supervision and direction of more than one person simultaneously.
