Associate Attorney - Medical Malpractice Defense Litigation

Goodell, DeVries, Leech & Dann, LLP is seeking an Associate Attorney to join our Medical Malpractice Group. The ideal candidate will have four years or more of litigation experience, with at least two years of experience in medical malpractice litigation. The ideal candidate is also barred and in good standing to practice in Maryland and/or Virginia state courts. The successful candidate must be self motivated with strong interpersonal, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

Paralegal

Goodell, DeVries, Leech & Dann, LLP is seeking a paralegal, who will be an important member of the medical malpractice defense team and will have the opportunity to take ownership of a variety of medical malpractice case-related documents. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Gathering medical records and performing comprehensive chart reviews for relevancy and standard of care issues
  • Drafting memoranda to assist with reporting to insurers
  • Conferring with clients
  • Assisting attorneys with preparation for witness depositions
  • Locating and retaining expert witnesses, preparing information and data for expert witness analysis and opinion
  • Performing medical research and obtaining medical literature relevant to matter
  • Summarizing medical literature
  • Cross-checking facts and verifying the accuracy and authenticity of the case-related information
  • Composing, organizing, and filing legal documents
  • Providing assistance in trial preparation
  • Reviewing deposition and trial transcripts
  • Preparing detailed chronologies of medical events, relevant to the case
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in paralegal studies, paralegal certificate, or relevant experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in a law firm
  • Strong organizational skills with extreme attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and under own direction and initiative
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and work collaboratively with other members of the team
