Goodell DeVries Obtains Defense Verdict on Behalf of Orthopedic Surgeon in Baltimore City Jury Trial

July 2017

Goodell DeVries attorneys K. Nichole Nesbitt and Jhanelle A. Graham obtained a defense verdict in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City for their client, an orthopedic surgeon.  The case arose from an accident that occurred while the defendant and the plaintiff, also an orthopedic surgeon, were performing surgery together.  The plaintiff alleged that he sustained a permanent ulnar nerve injury when his elbow collided with a surgical drill pin that the defendant was operating.  The plaintiff claimed that the injury rendered him unable to perform future surgeries, and he sought over $4 million in economic damages, as well as non-economic damages.

After an eight-day jury trial, the jury unanimously decided that the defendant orthopedic surgeon represented by Goodell DeVries was not negligent and entered a defense verdict.
