Abate v. AcandS, Circuit Court for Baltimore City, Maryland.
Represented Metropolitan Life in year-long consolidated trial involving several thousand
plaintiffs and cross- and third-party claims arising from 10,000 cases. Metropolitan Life
was sued on the theory that it had engaged in a conspiracy to hide the risks of asbestos
in the 1930s and 1940s. All claims remaining against it at the close of trial were
dismissed with prejudice.

Environmental Impairment
Maryland Department of the Environment v. Phillips Petroleum Co.,
Circuit Court for Baltimore County, Maryland. The judge found that the petroleum company
was not responsible for the costs incurred by MDE to clean up a gasoline spill allegedly
resulting from the failure of a connector.

Lead-based Paint
Jacqueline Johnson v. Rowhouses, Inc., 120 Md. App. 579, 707 A.2d
933 (1988). Court of Special Appeals of Maryland affirmed in favor of defendant property
owner issuing an opinion which modified causation standards in toxic exposure actions.
Ford v. P.M. Investment Corp., Circuit Court for Baltimore City,
Maryland (1997). After three-week trial, the jury found in favor of a property owner and
manager in a case where plaintiff alleged that brain damage to a minor child resulted from
exposure to lead.
