Ms. Downie practices primarily in the area of complex pharmaceutical/medical device products liability, toxic tort and environmental litigation, and general tort liability claims. Ms. Downie has represented clients in state and federal courts across the country and has tried several cases to verdict in Maryland. Ms. Downie also has appellate experience and has argued before the Maryland Court of Special Appeals.
Ms. Downie’s pharmaceutical/medical device practice has focused on the representation of pharmaceutical manufacturers in cases involving personal injury claims related to a variety of products including heart medication, blood products, over-the-counter cold medication, diabetes medication, cholesterol medication, vaccines, and diet drugs. Ms. Downie has also represented medical device manufacturers in claims alleging injury as a result of a product defect. Ms. Downie’s toxic tort experience has included the representation of Baltimore City property owners involved in lead-based paint litigation as well as the representation of manufacturers in cases in which plaintiffs allege injury from exposure to benzene and vinyl chloride.
